Announcements: Bob said he would like to start a nominating committee right away, to begin its work in September. He asked for volunteers. Carleton Talbot, KC5MRM, Dave Schumann and Billie Chrisley, KD5UZJ, volunteered. Bob reminded them that they will have to provide a list of candidates at the Oct. 15 board meeting. He asked everyone to seriously consider being a board member or an officer. 2. Donations: Bob mentioned that we have quite a stockpile of donations piling up at the club house. It was suggested that we hold a mini-bean feed a few weeks after the tech class finishes. It will be part of the workshop for new operators that Cash wants to plan. This would be a good way to offer low cost equipment to new hams. 3. Minutes: The minutes of the last general business meeting were reviewed. Jim, WA2NIJ moved and George, KD5OHA, seconded that they be approved as presented. The motion passed. 4. Financial Report: Rod, WK5I, presented the financial report. The checking account has $7,444.32; the savings account has $389 and with the cash on hand the total is $8,163.03. We now have only an insurance payment left as required payments before the end of the year. Our financial situation is very good. 5. Carleton read an article from the newsletter of the El Paso Radio Club about Steve Horan's manuals and training materials for new hams. We are getting some nice publicity. 6. Program: Doug Hicks, KE5FF, said that Sid Goddard, KD5SSA, will do the program in September. A man from the weather station will come for our October meeting. In November John Beakley will talk on climbing safety. 7. Education: Tim was absent but Bob mentioned that the tech class, scheduled for Oct. 4, 5 and 6, may have as many as 10 students in it. 8. Races: Karl Larsen was absent, but there is a race going on this morning. There may be others in September. Bob will check with Karl when he gets back to town. 9. Repeaters: Richard Johnson, KC5EVR, brought two new batteries to the club house today. Bob will contact Brad about installing them at twin peaks and Caballo. 10. Breakfasts: Cash, KD5SSJ, asked for help with next month's breakfast. 11. Socials: Bob mentioned the problem with low attendance at the social dinners the second Monday of the month. Do we still want it? If so, where? He took an informal poll at the meeting. 12. There was some discussion of the club networks. Bob Deal, KD5PPP, mentioned that he has had good luck on 6 meters, which is available to technicians. It is active for as long as four hours a day late in the afternoon. The net on Wednesday nights will continue. Billie will continue to be net control and they may try a simplex check in to see how it works. 13. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m. Respectfully Submitted by Marnie Leverett, Secretary BACK PAGE The newsletter is always looking for articles and notes of interest to the members of the Mesilla Valley Radio Club.
